Professor of Virology at the Biomedical Science Department and Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University
Dr. Asmaa Al-Thani is a Professor of Virology at the Biomedical Science Department and Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University. Dr. Al-Thani obtained her PhD from the University of London in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Al-Thani is also Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Vice Chairperson of the Qatar Biobank Board, nominate to be Chair of National Genome Qatar Committee, and Director of Biomedical Research Centre at Qatar University.
Dr. Al-Thani has numerous published articles in her field of expertise, including 36 published papers in peer-reviewed international journals. She has also obtained several research grants, including seven Qatar University grants, 13 UREP grants and four NPRP grants. She was the recipient of the First Prize of Sheikh Hamad Bin Rashid for Culture and Sciences for research in December 2006, and was awarded a prize from the Al-Jasra Cultural Club-Qatar for student research. She works as reviewer for several scientific journals and conferences, and is a member in the American Society for Microbiology.
