Research

Qatar Biobank is proud to support local scientists involved in biomedical science by highlighting their research and connecting them with their peers in Qatar and abroad.

As the Qatar National Research Strategy (QNRS) strives to improve the health and well-being of Qatar’s population, scientific research collaborations enabled by Qatar Biobank are the key to impacting the future of personalised healthcare in Qatar and the region.

Qatar Biobank has incubated The Qatar Genome Programme (QGP) which is a national initiative aiming to map the genome of the local population. Announced by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation and Vice Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Health during the World Innovation Summit on Health (WISH) 2013, the Qatar Genome Programme is currently in its pilot phase.

QGP uses a collection of samples and data from Qatar Biobank participants to identify genotype-phenotype associations relevant to the Qatari population. This will provide unique insights that would enable the development of personalized healthcare in Qatar. For more information about the Qatar Genome Programme click here.

Genome Sequence Data Format

Through the data and samples collected from our participants who are Qatari citizens or long term residents, we provide a research platform to facilitate researchers in their request to undertake high-quality biomedical research, to better understand the causes of a range of diseases that affect the population of Qatar leading to the discovery and development of new healthcare interventions.

Qatar Biobank also manages and safeguards the acquisition of thousands of samples providing researchers the opportunity to impact the local and regional research landscape using local resources.

COVID-19 RESEARCH PROJECT

Do I have antibodies? Did you gain immunity to the Covid-19 virus after infection?

This research contributes to answering these questions and helps scientists and researchers discover the treatment and vaccine for this virus

What are the benefits for researchers?

Qatar Biobank will provide invaluable resources for researchers within the country and wider areas. Qatar Biobank will enable researchers to discover how the health and genes of Qatar’s population is affected by their lifestyle and environment.
